Hummingbird Nectar Recipe Ingredients 1 part white sugar/4 parts filtered or distilled water. Directions 1. Mix 1 cup of white sugar* with 1/4 cup of filtered water. 2. Microwave for 1 minute 2. Stir until the sugar dissolves. 3. Cool. *Important: Do not add red food coloring. Do not substitute honey or brown sugar. Both could make hummingbirds sick. Sugar water spoils quickly in summer heat. Hang feeder in the shade, preferably near flowers that attract hummingbirds. Every few days, be sure to scrub your feeder clean, rinse it thoroughly, and refill it. You can keep extra Hummingbird Nectar Recipe in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. |
